When I saw this frosty photo, I contemplated a vacation in Africa (or - at least - very hot tea). - I saw snow storm in the USA on tv afternoon. Quite frightening!
I'm a total wimp. When this cold front hit on Monday I hibernated. I haven't been out in three days. I'm going crazy now, though. I'm a stay-at-home-mom but I usually don't like to stay-at-home THIS much but yesterday's high of 0 and today's high of 8 is not very appealing to me!! Enjoy your short ribs. ;)
Short ribs sound wonderful...mmmmmm. I think it is colder there than here in gray Ohio. We haven't had as much snow as the rest of the country (I think you have more than we do now!), but I can't think the last time I saw the sun! Everyone is getting very crabby at work.
I didn`t think 10 degrees was too bad! then I remembered that you Americans use Farenheit, and when I converted it, it was -12C !!Thats "stay under the Duvet" weather for me! On the bright side the prediction is for 50 degrees by next Friday, +10C, thats probably Bikini weather for you!! ;-) x
I have a thought for all of us going stir crazy. Go to the market, get your most decadent picnic food and 2 or 3 roses and lay out a blanket on the floor for dinner. Take the petals off the roses and sprinkle them all over and around the food. Don't forget something wonderful to drink that reminds you of warm evenings- mine would be a glass of pinot gris(in a fancy glass, or go the other way- a jelly glass) and we'll all take a little break from feeling grim! And Hannah, depending on the age of your children, they'll love it too. But if they are tiny, put them to bed and have a romantic hour or two-even if its by yourself.
lol. I looked outside my window this morning and could see nothing. Snow was plastered against the building up to my eyeline. I had to stand on a chair to see that I could not see the street, the driveway, and most cars. Roughly four feet of snow fell here overnight. Drifts of course are much higher. No ballet tonight. No anything. You could be arrested if caught driving! Never had that before.
Looks like home! I have a similar view when I look out of my window, only that I look at a beautiful white winter (wonder)forest.
We've had about minus 12 degrees here the last few days (Celsius, I don't know how much that is in Fahrenheit, but I tell you, it's so cold I woke up shivering from the cold two nights ago).
It has been around -25F here for the past week or so, severe wind chill conditions. Today, however, is around 20 degrees, sunny, and little to no wind. It feels so good to see the sun! I hope you're staying warm, Nana! That picnic idea sounds wonderful. I may have to spread out a blanket on the floor of my dorm room and pull out the good cereal ;)
Looks very pretty. Haven't had any snow here in the UK since the end of last year - we missed having a white Christmas by only a couple of days. There was still some slush around, but that's just depressing...
What a sweet idea. I may have to take you up on that-though I may make the picnic on my king sized bed because my back has been hurting (I really need to start doing yoga again) but maybe I'm just making excuses to lay in the bed...hehe. Either that or invest in nice floor cushions...
I do think an impromptu date at home wouldn't be a bad idea since we won't be able to do a Valentine's Day dinner date until the very end of the month since that's when my mom can watch my daughter.
Suddenly I'm flooded with memories of picnics by the Rio Grande as a child and teenager (my grandparents own a ranch in southwestern Colorado) where the sun was warming us as we lay in the grass on the riverbank on one of my grandmother's goofy quilts. She always made fun of her own quilts because she wasn't really much of a seamstress and she always used the wackiest fabrics available.
This comment is getting quite long. I guess I was having a walk down memory lane... :D
My mother grew up in Paris, one of 11 children, and had memories of bomb shelters and only flour and water to eat, as well as raucous family meals.[What else could they have been with 11 children?]When she landed in America as a young girl, she paid her way by assisting the dietitian with all the meals at her Ann Arbor, Michigan school. So family tradition, hunger and a decidedly forward thinking school cook all led to food and dinner time being somewhat of an obsession. My mother would always prepare a 2 and sometimes 3 course meal for us.Working beside Mama in the kitchen was a cloth woven with long periods of comfortable silences, confessions, laughing and the intricate ballet required when you have more than one person in a New York City apartment kitchen. What I write here has so much to do with this woman who would literally swoon eating a marron glace. Appreciation, gratitude and wonder. She had those and I hope to share some with you.

ReplyDeleteso you are getting a small taste of NY in NM :) Enjoy the beauty and quiet of the snow - the quiet of snow is my favorite part of winter in NY
ReplyDeleteIt's warmer up here in Calgary than it is down in New Mexico today? That's just wrong. :-)
ReplyDeleteMy husband had dinner ready when I got home tonight, and he had all the candles lit with our fireplace going- so I had at least a nice dinner tonight!
ReplyDeleteYour idea sounds great for this weekend i think!
It's been pushing 40 degrees here in Sydney. Of course, that's Celsius not Fahrenheit
ReplyDelete(Not that i should complain. We've missed the floods, hurricanes & the worst of the bush fires. Australia. Atlantean one day, Infernal the next)
Are you still sure you want to visit here for Armageddon?
With regards
Robert

But I love that Hannah!
ReplyDeleteAh, this mythical stuff called "snow" I keep hearing about. Always wondered what it looked like.
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks for loving my goofiness. Happy Valentine's Day dearies!
