A New Tradition

Yesterday morning, the tree became a New Year's tree- we took all the ornaments off and wrapped it with yards and yards of tuile and ribbon. Instead of waking up today with the whole huge job of taking down the tree , the hardest part was over and our tree was a shimmery reminder of last night's wonderful dinner party. Happy New Year dear friends!

  1. What a nice idea, and what a beautiful tree by the way. I think we'll adapt this next christmas due to a lack of tuile this year. And be honest...most of our christmas trees stay there till Febuary - untouched. :) Maybe I throw ours out this year before flying to the SFBall.
Thanks Nana and all the best to you and your family!

  3. Haha...love this idea. We did the same thing, except we, um, never found most of our ornaments so I guess it was always a new year's tree! Hehee!

  4. Our miniature christmas tree is already decorated with an un petit morceau ribbon & mistletoe. What more does it need?

  5. Hmnn... my husband will love this! One year we got into a fight when he wanted to take the tree down Dec. 26th!

Your tree looks beautiful- very creative!

I also wanted to let you know I made some of the sugar cookies from the recipe posted recently.

They came out ok- but I had trouble with the icing- I scrimped and bought store bought. But, they did taste great! Will do different icing next time!
I did manage to make at least one fire engine for my nephew, which he took home, he said he was not sure if he wanted to eat it. He thought he might play with it! Thanks for the inspiration!

Hope you had a great New years!

  6. Word of warning all- be careful with your tulle. Spiders seem to LOVE that stuff. A lot. We're talking massive spider infestation of innocent tulle.
    Consider yourselves warned.

  7. Only you could turn tuile into a potential horror movie! :)

and Lisa- icing is no more than confectioners sugar, a dollop of corn syrup( to make it harden and shine) and a liquid to get it to the right consistency- lemon juice if you want the flavor. Try it for Valentine's Day and you won't be stuck with the store colors- you can let your imagination take you to lavender, pale blue, and royal blue hearts

  8. Yes, you're right about the icing. I can control the consistency better. I did get compliments on the cookies themselves though- so that was good!

PS: I think I am afraid of tulle now!

  9. lol. Okay lady here it is: I had a performance, kind of a a bring your own tutu type of deal. Mind you, I don't own a tutu bag. I just store mine upside down out in the open so they don't get musty. Long story short, I did not find out that my tutu was infested with spiders, and little spider egg things, until I was on stage performing. Oh, the horror. Forget Black Swan (funny movie btw), that was an f'ing horror story. Naturally I had to finish. And lemme tell ya, these were biting spiders, and they considered things like wearing their home, and pirouettes to be threats. Hence they bit, and crawled all over me, but could not be seen from the audience.
People of the world, store your tutus. Don't let them sit out in the open. Apparently tulle looks like a big inviting spider web?? tutus and tulle should, imo, be stored in air-tight containers.

  13. Nice tree. Ours is always a Christmas/New Year's tree as my family has some Russian ancestry and thus we leave it up at least through Russian Christmas. But my mother was ill much of this year and the tree cheers her up, so I have a feeling it will be up for awhile. Maybe it will be a Valentine tree! LOL.
